Installing FreeBSD 5.0

NOTE: FreeBSD 5.0 has not been released. The information contained on this page is based on the use of FreeBSD 5.0-current, the code base that will become FreeBSD 5.0.

Basic Configuration

Use the "Developer" installation with the X Window System. Be sure to install the kernel source if you want to build the accelerated NVIDIA driver.

Required

• Autoconf: /usr/ports/devel/autoconf
• Automake: /usr/ports/devel/automake

Recommended

• Hardware-accelerated graphics support
  • http://www.nvidia.com/
• DDD, the Data Display Debugger: /usr/ports/devel/ddd
• Some JDK/J2SDK installation, either 1.3.1 or 1.4.x. These come from http://java.sun.com/
  • Native JDK 1.3.1: /usr/ports/java/jdk13
  • Linux JDK works (requires Linux emulation support)
• JDOM: /usr/ports/java/jdom
• OpenORB: http://openorb.sourceforge.net/
• OpenAL: /usr/ports/audio/openal

Optional

The following RPMs can be installed, but they are not required. GLUT would be needed to use some features of Open Scene Graph and OpenSG. NSPR would be needed to use the NSPR subsystem in VPR.
