Q: Does clustering work on Windows?
We have three-wall projection system, which are driven by three PC on Windows XP platform. I tried VR juggler version 2.0-beta2 on one PC and single screen, it performed very well.
However, when I used cluster configuarion, it became very slow (one second per frame). I guess the problem is because of the frame synchronization. We use NVIDIA Quadro FX3000G graphic card and it provides the hardware-level Geolock. Does VR Juggler support this? I did try to add the TCP Swap Lock plug-in, but I got error message and it didn't work at all.
A: Yes.
The VR Juggler clustering infrastructure has been tested and used on Windows. In the past (prior to the 2.0 Alpha 4 release), VR Juggler clustering on Windows was not very good, but that is no longer the case.
With the wide variety of graphics and netwroking hardware available today, it is hard to predict how any given combination of hardware and software will perform. The specific graphics cards asked about in this question have not been tested by the VR Juggler development team (as of early July 2005), but other users of VR Juggler may have utilized these graphics cards.
