Installing IRIX 6.5.x

Our system administrator does the IRIX installations. The basics are the following:

• IRIX version 6.5.3 or newer is required. We recommend always having the latest maintenance release.
• MIPSpro Compilers 7.3.1.3m or newer.

Extras

The following lists extra packages that should or must be installed for using VR Juggler. Some requirements vary depending on what you want to do with VR Juggler. For example, if you do not want to build it from its source code, you can ignore requirements related to that process.

Many of these dependencies are available from http://freeware.sgi.com/

Required

• GNU make 3.78.1 or newer (for building sample applications).
• Java Development Kit 1.4 for building the Java code or Java Runtime Environment 1.4 for executing pre-built Java code.
  • Note that with the latest Juggler code, the IRIX JDK 1.3 no longer works. This is an IRIX-specific problem.
• If you want to build VR Juggler from its source, the build system requires the following:
  • Autoconf 2.53 or newer.
  • Automake 1.6 or newer.
  • Perl 5.6.0 or newer.
• If you are building a version of VR Juggler released after January 28, 2004, you need to have the following compiled and installed:
  • Boost 1.31.0
    • To compile Boost, you need bjam (boost-jam)
  • CppDOM 0.3.0 or newer
    • To compile CppDOM, you need SCons.
• To compile the Java code, we require the following:
  • OpenORB: http://openorb.sourceforge.net/ (only if using a version of the JDK older than 1.4.0)

JDOM is needed if working with a version of VR Juggler 1.1/2.0 released prior to October 15, 2003.
